Sorry that I’m a day late posting this but I was so busy with having a little get together for the Kentucky Derby I didn’t have time to post.
I snagged this dress because of its 1940s feel! (I love a good vintage style dress) So when it came time to refashion something for watching the Kentucky Derby I thought this classic dress would be just the thing!
Okay…it’s a little frumptastic.
Love the sleeve ties, too cute. Sadly, they did not make it 😦
First things first…with every old dress comes…ugh shoulder pads. You call yourselves shoulder pads? You should be ashamed! These are like micro shoulder pads!
I had to shorten the sleeve length which is why I couldn’t save the cute sleeve ties.
Then I took the dress in by about 1 inch on each side.
To go with the 1940s theme of the dress I gave it a square neckline.
I made bias tape out of some white t-shirt material (I wouldn’t recommend doing this. I’d stick with anothet type of fabric. Too stretchy!)
This little gadget is pretty nifty!
Pinned and ready for the machine!
Since the t-shirt material I used for bias tape stretched, my square neckline turned into a round neckline. I had to do a little hand stitching to bring the square back into shape.
I shortened the length by about 4 inches and then hemmed it.
My dress was done just in time to clean up before our guests arrived! Just playing the part of a 40s housewife.
Enough of that, it’s Mint Julep time!!!
The offical drink of the Kentucky Derby!
Celebratory drink after my 1st pick (American Pharoah) took 1st place and my 2nd pick (Frosted) took 4th place!!
Happy Refashioning!!!!!!
Adorable 🙂 I’m a sucker for vintage looks.
